Box Score
FPU dropped its final game before the conference schedule, falling 3-1 on the road at Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday.
Josh Medeles gave up two runs and struck out eight in four innings, but would be tagged with the loss.
Karlan Andrews went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases out of the leadoff spot but as a whole the Sunbirds got just one run across for the second straight game.
The Sunbirds struck first on Otter starter Jonas Noack, after a leadoff single by Andrews and an RBI double by
Michael Vaughn in the first inning. That would be all the team could muster the rest of the way however, as Noack earned the win by striking out six in four innings. Dylan Auker picked up the save.
FPU got effective relief pitching from
Tyler Sturgill,
Bryce Daily and
Greg Kilgore, but it would be to no avail with the Sunbird lineup leaving nine men on base.
Their best chance to come back came in the eighth when
Robbie De La Cruz hit a two-out single and
Michael Rivera, recovering from injury and seeing his first action of the year, pinch-hit for another single. The Otters would get
Scott Laird to fly out to center though, ending the threat.
FPU falls to 9-4 on the season while the NCAA D2 Otters improve to 9-5. The Sunbirds begin their final season of GSAC play this Thursday at home, facing Westmont for a doubleheader beginning at 2 pm.
