As a Junior (2011) - Played his way into the starting left-fielder spot, making 38 starts in 44 games played for the Sunbirds....batted .311 with 11 doubles, a home run, 20 RBI, 22 runs scored and 7 stolen bases....batted .370 (10-for-27) during the postseason, including a 2-for-4 day with a home run off eventual NAIA champion Concordia....went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI and two doubles in the elimination-game win over Texas-Brownsville in the NAIA Opening Round....went 3-for-4 in a win over Point Loma Nazarene (3/22).

As a Sophomore (2010)- Played in 26 games, making two starts for the Sunbirds....in 25 at-bats had six hits (.240), seven RBI and 10 runs scored....had two-RBI games in wins over Bethany, Azusa Pacific and The Master's.

As a Freshman (2009) - Karlan appeared in 42 of the Sunbirds’ 60 games, 39 of which were starts...He batted a solid .311 while having 122 at bats...Karlan scored 22 runs, batted in 19 runs, and hit 1 home run...He had a .351 on-base percentage as well as a .953 fielding percentage.

Prior to FPU - Karlan is a graduate of Redwood High School...He played varsity baseball all four years...His coaches were Joe Garcia and Mario Celillo...He was named All-League twice as a shortstop...named Tulare County First Team all four years...named the 2008 Tulare County Player of the Year...awarded the Fresno Bee's First Team All-Valley Shortstop in 2008...a two-time Team MVP.
