As a Sophomore (2012) - Established himself as one of the top catchers on the West Coast at any level....Known primarily for his superior defensive ability, he also solidified himself as the team's top hitter despite missing much of the season due to injury....prior to a mid-season injury, he was hitting .357 and leading the team in homeruns, RBI and slugging percentage....went 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and a homerun in win over San Francisco State (2/10)....went 3-for-4 with two homeruns and three RBI in win over Westmont (2/23)....was fully healthy by the end of the year and finished the season with a .291 batting average while leading the Sunbirds in homeruns (5) and slugging percentage (.570) despite playing in less than half of the team's games.....was ranked the #25 catcher in the nation by Baseball America and is projected by most scouts to be selected in the top 10 rounds of the 2012 MLB Draft.

As a Freshman (2011) - One of the top defensive catchers in the West, Vaughn played in 49 games making 46 starts behind the plate for the GSAC ERA-leading Sunbird pitching staff....had 47 assists and a .990 fielding percentage from the catcher's spot....gunned down 25 would-be basestealers....at the plate batted .190 in 142 at-bats and was third on the team with 5 home runs....went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a home run in win at GSAC champ Cal Baptist (3/16)....homered in back-to-back games at Azusa Pacific (3/30-31)....went 3-for-5 in 14-inning win over #9 Biola (4/14)....went 2-for-4 with season-high 5 RBI and a homer in win at San Diego Christian (4/27).

Prior to FPU- Redshirted at NCAA Division II Mesa State before coming to FPU...Played four years of varsity baseball at Cactus High School in Peoria, Arizona...earned 2nd Team All-Region honors...team was the state-runner up in 2009.

Personal- Born December 19, 1990...parents are Lisa and Mike Vaughn...Has three siblings...Uncle, Shawn Gilbert, played professional baseball...Greatest sports thrill was playing in the Arizona state championship game...Chose FPU for academics and the baseball program...favorite food is lasagna...favorite movie is Anchorman...Best friend on another team is Casey Colling of New Mexico State...favorite sports team is the Arizona Diamondbacks...favorite athlete and person he would most like to meet is Ivan Rodriguez....Michael is an Applied Mathematics major.
