Box Score

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - FPU's second game of the day was against the host-school Cal Lutheran. The Sunbirds fell behind 4-0 before Jaimie Lugo provided the team's first goal.

FPU would trail 5-1 but played inspired in the second quarter as goals from Jenn Wolter and Katie Rayner brought the team closer. The Sunbirds would get to within 6-5 on a Michelle Kaplan goal early in the third, but Cal Lutheran responded with the next two.

FPU trailed 11-7 with 3:30 remaining in the fourth before quick goals from Rayner and RaeAnn Sadler drew the team within two with two minutes left. 40 seconds later, Lugo added a big goal that made the score 11-10 CLU.

The Sunbirds were unable to convert in the final minute, falling to 2-8 on the season, but should have some momentum going into tomorrow's games. Rayner and Lugo finished with three goals each.

"The girls were fired up and played with the most intensity I've seen yet," said coach Bryan Suhovy. "They wanted it and just came up a couple goals short. I haven't seen that kind of passion from them in a long time. I'm proud of how we played and looking forward to a couple of great games tomorrow."

The Sunbirds face Villanova at 8 am on Saturday before taking on Wheaton at 11:45.

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Michelle Kaplan and Jaimie Lugo each scored two goals but the Sunbirds fell to the #1-ranked team in NCAA Division III on Friday.

Occidental used three late first-half goals to turn a 3-2 game into a 6-2 game and would close out the Sunbirds despite two late FPU goals.

"Oxy is a solid team and they came to play," said FPU coach Bryan Suhovy. "Their experience just got the best of us in the end. The girls have come a long way and held the #1 D3 team to a four-point game."
