Box Score
Fresno Pacific played well in stretches against the NAIA's #2 team, but playing on the road against Concordia requires more than that as FPU suffered a 92-77 defeat in Irvine Thursday night.
Concordia remained undefeated (16-0) in GSAC play with the win, while FPU fell to 8-7. The Eagles have now won 22 straight games.
The Sunbirds fell behind 32-13 early, with
Adam Kado picking up three fouls early but the team refused to roll over, clawing their way back to make it a 34-27 game with 5:50 remaining in the half.
Kendall Holmes helped lead the charge with strong inside play during that run and
Matt Christman hit the three that brought the team within seven.
FPU would fail to capitalize on that burst however, as Concordia outscored the Sunbirds 16-4 the rest of the half. The team trailed 50-31 heading into the locker room, but would start the second half with energy.
Five minutes into the second half, the Sunbirds had made the score 59-50 after a
Jordan Wild three. The Eagles proceeded to score the next 12 points though, giving them a 21-point lead and essentially ending the Sunbirds' hopes.
FPU did cut the lead back to 10 in the closing minutes, but was unable to make a serious run.
Jerante Morgan led the Sunbirds with 13 points. Christman and Wild added 11 each and
Casper Hesseldal scored 10. Holmes finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Kado ended up with eight points and seven assists.
Justin Johnson led all scorers with 22 points for the Eagles and Taylor King added 17.
FPU now turns its attention to Hope International (13-12, 4-11) who they host this Saturday at 4:30 pm. The Sunbirds won the first meeting in Fullerton, but the Royals battled late into the game.
