BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Fresno Pacific (6-23) began the weekend with a tough loss at home to UC Davis, and then traveled to Bakersfield where they split at the tournament, falling to Brown and defeating CSU San Bernardino. The Sunbirds lost 4-12 to both Davis and Brown, and defeated San Bernardino 9-8 in a tight game where the Sunbirds scored the winning goal with six seconds left on the clock.
"We used our last time-out to set up our offense where [Katie] Rayner and [Marissa] Nunez posted up in front of the goal and worked together to get that last shot,” explained Coach
Bryan Suhovy about the final seconds. “With six seconds left they found [Borbala] Toth who drove center cage and scored the winning goal.”
The Sunbirds trailed by two goals at halftime, but fought back to tie the game at 6-6 with a quarter to go. The final quarter was goal-for-goal until the final seconds.
Coach Suhovy added, “I was really excited about the win today. The girls worked their tails off for this one and I am proud of them.”
Dani Mortimer had 26 saves on the weekend with 20 coming in the Bakersfield tournament. She came up big with 12 saves in their win over San Bernardino.
Borbala Toth had four goals in the tournament with three in their win including the final goal of the game.
