Fresno Pacific fell behind early and couldn't recover, falling 76-54 to NCAA D2 #19 Grand Canyon in Phoenix on Saturday.

Jenay Herring led FPU with 17 points and Jessica Torrecillas added 12. The Sunbirds fell behind by 20 points in the first half and were out-rebounded 49-29 in the loss.

FPU (5-6) would cut the lead to 13 in the second half, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome. Grand Canyon (11-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Maylinn Smith with 18.

The Sunbirds will have a 10-day break from play and return to action on the 28th, when they begin a tournament in Las Vegas. FPU will face Montana State-Northern, Mount Marty and Ursuline.
