LONG BEACH, Calif. - As Fresno Pacific women's basketball battled in their season finale,
Angela Whitfield emerged at the center of it all. The senior guard was the only Sunbird to earn a PacWest weekly honor this season, fighting hard to collect her third double-double of the season against Dominican.
In the regular season finale, Whitfield recorded 14 rebounds and 11 points, while also adding six blocks and five assists. It was an extraordinary game for the senior as she had a career-high in rebounds, assists, and blocks!
All season long Whitfield was a defensive force for the Sunbirds, leading the team in rebounds, minutes, blocked shots and so much more. Her leadership was a crucial factor in the young team's ability to push forward. Defensively, she collected more rebounds than opponents could count and was quick enough to steal the ball right from under them. She is currently ranked third in conference in rebounding and sixth in blocked shots.
Overall, Whitfield had nine games where she tallied 10+ rebounds, which contributed to the three double-doubles she had over the course of the season. Her first was against Biola (10 rebounds and 19 points), then she followed it up in the conference upset at Point Loma (11 rebounds and 14 points), and closed out the season at Dominican (14 rebounds and 11 points).
Although the FPU women's basketball season came to a close on Saturday, Whitfield's contributions throughout the season undoubtedly earned this final honor to close out her outstanding career.
