Women's soccer plays Biola to 1-1 tie

Box Score

Fresno Pacific and Biola played to a 1-1 tie Wednesday night with neither team scoring in the second half or overtime.

Mariah Alvidrez put FPU on top early as her and Jessica Pereschica beat the defense on a breakaway just 9:37 into the game. Pereschica fed Alvidrez for the goal, her eighth of the season.

Biola, who has struggled to score all season and stands last in the GSAC with 10 total goals this year, would tie it up in the 38th minute. The Eagles had a group of players in the box and got two very good shots at the goal by Brianna Yarber, the first going off the crossbar and nearly bouncing in. Yarber would take the rebounded shot, gather herself and fire another, this time to the back of the net.

The Sunbirds had numerous opportunities in the second half and the overtime, finishing with a total of 17 shots, but FPU was unable to capitalize. Biola goalie Erin Frushon made four saves to help preserve the tie.

The Eagles got off just two shots in the second half and none in the overtime, as an FPU defense led by Maghan Wright and Jae Slocum kept the Biola offense at bay.

The Sunbirds now stand at 5-7-2, 3-3-1 GSAC. It was the third consecutive tie for Biola (4-4-5, 1-2-4 GSAC).

FPU travels to Costa Mesa for its next game, facing Vanguard at noon on Saturday. The Lions are ranked #21 and are 7-5-3 overall, but have struggled in conference play (1-4-2 GSAC).
