Aguirre & Hernandez Score in 'Birds Senior Day Draw

FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's soccer celebrated eight seniors Saturday at Ramirez Field, battling Cal Poly Humboldt to a 2-2 draw. The Sunbirds (4-7-3, 3-4-3 CCAA) made the most of their opportunities, scoring twice on just six shots, while goalkeeper Brielle Calhoun recorded four saves.

The Sunbirds recognized the following seniors before the match: Julianna Hernandez, Emily Alvarez, Sophie Rosales, Aaliyah Herrera, Chloe Mortensen, Serenity Torres, Celeste Suarez, and Damaris Lopez. Through their hard work, commitment to their teammates, and passion for representing the Blue and Orange, these seniors have helped shape the culture of Fresno Pacific women's soccer. The Sunbirds thank them for their impact on and off the field and wish them continued success in their next chapters.

After starting all of their seniors, FPU struck early when Gizelle Aguirre found the back of the net at 3:24 off an assist from Damaris Lopez. Cal Poly Humboldt responded with sustained pressure, but Calhoun turned away attempts from Heidie Munoz and Hayden Anderson to preserve the lead. The visitors eventually equalized at 25:52, sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.

The Lumberjacks continued to press after the break, including a shot off the woodwork, but the Sunbirds found another breakthrough in the 69th minute. Julianna Hernandez converted a penalty kick at 68:03 to put FPU ahead 2-1, marking her first goal of the season!

Cal Poly Humboldt kept pushing and drew level once more when Kyla Okamoto converted a penalty kick at 83:55. Calhoun made a late save to help preserve the draw, as the Sunbirds held on through the final minutes to close the match with the 2-2 draw.

Fresno Pacific moves to 4-7-3 overall and 3-4-3 in CCAA play.

NEXT UP: The Sunbirds are on the road next week. With three conference matches remaining in regular season, the 'Birds are looking forward to their matches against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Oct. 23 and Cal State LA that following Sunday, Oct. 25.
