The Fresno Pacific women's soccer team upset 16th ranked CSU San Marcos 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Ramirez field in 100 degree heat. With the shutout win, the Sunbirds make it four consecutive victories and improve to 4-1 on the season.
FPU freshman
Demi Hamilton's thirty yard blast into the upper right corner of the Cougar's net was enough, as a solid defensive effort secured the result for the Sunbirds. Hamilton's strike came in the 50th minute just following the halftime break after the two teams had been deadlocked at 0-0.
"It was a tough game and we hung in there," Hamilton said, "They gave me the opportunity, so I took it," referring to her game winning goal.
Fresno Pacific's squad battled the nationally ranked Cougars shot for shot with each team tallying 11 apiece. Both teams created 6 shots in the first half, and 5 in the second.
FPU goalkeeper
Catherine Michaelis recorded 5 saves and posted her third shutout of the season.
"It was a real team effort," FPU head coach
Erik Farfan said crediting the Sunbirds. "We were really happy with the result considering we had a few key players sidelined for this match, but adjusted very well."
"We stuck to the game plan and had a lot of players step up to pitch in for this big win," Farfan added.
