LONG BEACH, Calif. – The PacWest Conference announced the All-Conference honors on Wednesday afternoon, naming
Karyssa Lopez of Fresno Pacific women's soccer an All-PacWest second team selection.
"Karyssa has been our anchor in the backline all season, she's a huge reason why we earned five clean sheets this year," said second-year head coach
Roberto Hernandez. "Her ability to end plays early and provide coverage to her teammates when needed really stuck out this season. Her leadership both on and off the field this year has been tremendous, and she deserves this recognition. Super proud!"
As one of the eleven seniors, Lopez appeared and started in every match this season. She leads the team with 1,412 minutes, having played the full 90 minutes ten times this year.
Defensively, the senior defender contributed to all five shutouts - Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific, Menlo, CUI, and Biola. She scored two goals overall, one being in the highest-scoring match of the season, which was the 4-3 conference win at Jessup. She also opened the Sunbirds' scoresheet against Westmont, giving FPU a fighting chance against the Warriors' early lead.
Her contributions didn't end there. The Fresno native assisted one of the three goals in the non-conference win over UC Santa Cruz. Her remarkable leadership and passion on the field contributed to the team's final four game-winning streak. This marked the first PacWest honor for the graduating senior defender.
Fresno Pacific women's soccer ended their season 4-8-5 overall and 3-3-4 in PacWest play.
