LA MIRADA, Calif. — The Streak Continues! Fresno Pacific women's soccer, the PacWest Team of the Week, charged ahead and captured a 1-0 victory against Biola on Thursday afternoon, with the lone goal coming in the second half. The Sunbirds' goalkeeper,
Ayana Kirisimasi, contributed to the win by making five saves and earning her fifth shutout of the season.
The first half saw a defensive standoff between the Sunbirds and Biola, with both goalkeepers making crucial saves.
Mackenzie Madron had an early attempt saved by Biola's goalkeeper at 11:02. Some brave Eagles tested Kirisimasi and the defensive line, but they preserved the scoreline with a save at 20:18. Despite multiple shots from both sides, including two more from
Takoah Castillo that were narrowly stopped, the teams entered halftime in a scoreless tie.
The Sunbirds secured a 1-0 victory over Biola in the second half, capitalizing early with a goal by freshman forward
Alexis Butz in the 46th minute, assisted by Castillo. Biola responded with multiple attempts on goal, but they were unable to convert, thanks to key saves by Kirisimasi.
Despite Biola's pressure and several corner kicks in the final minutes, the Sunbirds' defense held firm. Castillo made a final attempt to score at the 90th minute, but the clock ended with the Sunbirds winning 1-0. This marks the second shutout in a row for the Lady 'Birds and their fifth this season.
NEXT UP: The 'Birds travel to Point Loma on Saturday, November 8th for the last match of the regular season. The Top four teams in the PacWest standings will earn a ticket to the PacWest Championships. The Sunbirds are currently ranked seventh in the PacWest with an overall record of 4-7-5 and 3-2-4 in conference.
