Sunbirds finish regular season over Fresno State

Fresno Pacific defeat cross-town rivals 10-4

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (12-20) rose up for their final regular season game against a local matchup. The Sunbirds started slow, but came up big in their win over Fresno State, 10-4. Yulia Blinovskya scored four goals in her final game at home.

Blinovskya led the Sunbirds with her four scores while Brittany Guerrero followed with three goals of her own. Marissa Nunez, Borbala Toth and Audra Penner each had a goal apiece in the Sunbirds victory.

Coach Brian Suhovy commented, "We had a slow start, going down 0-2 in the first quarter, but once we warmed up the girls played with a lot of confidence."

At halftime, the Sunbirds managed to tie the score 2-2, and then the Sunbirds walked away with it in the third quarter. The Sunbirds scored five goals in the third, three goals coming from Guerrero alone.

Crystal Cole came up big as well; after letting two goals by her in the first quarter, Cole shutdown Fresno State in the next two and a half quarters. Cole had eleven saves on the game.

Coach Suhovy continued looking forward to this weekend, "The girls are really fired up going into [the NAIA Invitional] this weekend. They're confident and playing great."

The Sunbirds have won their last four games in a row, and have gone 6-2 in their last eight games.

The NAIA National Invitational will begin Friday, April 17 and will continue on Saturday, April 18. The Sunbirds will face Azusa Pacific, Concordia and Cal Baptist. The Sunbirds have defeated Azusa earlier this year, and took Concordia to overtime in their last meeting.
