#8 Sunbirds Stumble Again, Fall 75-70 to The Masters

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The #8 Sunbird men's basketball team (17-3 GSAC, 24-6) couldn't finish the regular season on a positive note, falling to the Mustangs 75-70 in their final GSAC contest. Although leading throughout most of the game, Fresno Pacific was unable to withstand a late push by the Mustangs and eventually lost by five points.

Fresno Pacific led throughout the first period, and went into the halftime break ahead 36-27.

In the second half, the Mustangs trailed the Sunbirds up until Thomas Miller's three-pointer with 12:31 left to play gave The Master's their first lead of the game, 49-48. FPU could never regain the lead from that point on.

Three Sunbirds scored in double figures. Junior guard James Lewis, Jr. put up 21 points and senior guard/forward Marcus West netted 20 and grabbed 6 rebounds. Junior forward Todd Brown also shot in double digits with 10 points on the night.

For the game, FPU shot 39% (23-59) from the field, 32.3% (10-31) from three-point range, and 87.5% (14-16) from the line.

The nationally ranked Sunbirds will next host Point Loma Nazarene Thursday, March 4th in the first round of the GSAC Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30PM.
