FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (2-10) got a much needed win after a difficult stretch of opponents. The Sunbirds defeated Azusa Pacific (0-5) in front of a home crowd; the Sunbirds finished 13-9 over Azusa.
Yulia Blinovskya led the Sunbirds with three goals, but the Sunbirds managed to spread the ball around as eight players scored for Fresno Pacific. Brittany Guerrero, Jen Wolter, and Katelyn Ball each had two goals apiece. Marissa Nunez, Jenny Diebert, Deborah Wall and Melissa Perry each scored once apiece to complete a great team performance.
Coach Brian Suhovy commented, “It was great to be able to get all the girls in the game, and get the ball in their hands,” he continued, “the girls were fired up to play strong, and they played smart throughout the game.”
The Sunbirds came out fired up scoring five goals in the first quarter, and keeping Azusa scoreless. Partly, thanks to Crystal Cole's work in the goalie cage. Cole finished the game with eight saves.
Azusa came back in the second quarter bringing the score to 7-4 at halftime, but the Sunbirds never looked back in the second half.
The Sunbirds will head to Thousand Oaks next weekend for the Cal Lutheran Tournament. The tournament will begin Friday, March 6.
