#12 Sunbirds fall to #8 Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (11-2, 6-2 GSAC) recently moved up in the polls this week from No. 16 to No. 12, but began a week of top ten challengers with a loss.  The Sunbirds fell to No. 8 Azusa Pacific 6-10.

Aaron Lynn and Dwight Nixon led the Sunbirds with two RBIs apiece, while Josh Jackson and John Lampros each hit in one run apiece to complete the Sunbirds six runs.

After Azusa scored three runs in the first and second inning, the Sunbirds fought back with three scored of their own in the third to tie the game.  However, Azusa opened up a five run fourth inning to extend their lead 8-3.  The Sunbirds managed to put together another three run inning in the seventh, but could not stop Azusa from scoring two more in the eighth.

Danny Mora received his first loss of the season, pitching three innings and allowing eight hits and six runs.  Kelyn Schellenberg came in to pitch four innings and allowing seven hits and three runs.  Both Mora and Schellenberg had three strikeouts apiece.

This weekend the Sunbirds will return home to take on another top-ten school in No. 3 Point Loma Nazarene.  The Sunbirds will have a doubleheader on Saturday, February 28 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
