FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (1-10) took on one of the best teams in the NAIA and kept it close the first half, but with a few mistakes in the second the Sunbirds fell to Cal Baptist 10-15.
Borbala Toth led the Sunbirds with five goals, while Yulia Blinovskya scored three before being majored and ejected in the third quarter. Melissa Perry and Jen Wolter each put in a goal apiece.
Katie Cole came up big with 11 saves, but it wasn't enough to shutdown the Lancers.
The Sunbirds had the game tied 4-4 after the first quarter, but fell behind by four at half. In the second half, the Lancers continued to control the game, where the Sunbirds got outscored 2-4 in the third quarter.
Coach Brian Suhovy commented, “We got caught off guard in the second half, but the girls hung in there and played smart.”
The Sunbirds managed to get two goals in the fourth, and holding Cal Baptist to only one goal.
Coach Suhovy continued, “The girls are really playing much better and reacting faster. We should match up well next weekend [against Azusa Pacific].”
Fresno Pacific will host Azusa Pacific at home on Saturday, February 28. It should be a good matchup as Azusa is in its first year and the Sunbirds are in their second year. The matchup is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
