Sunbirds Corral Mustangs With Convincing 92-68 Win

Fresno, Calif. – FPU head coach Jim Saia's #6 Sunbirds continued their GSAC dominance Tuesday night with a convincing 92-68 win over The Master's College. With the win, Fresno Pacific completes the first round of GSAC play a perfect 10-0 (17-3 overall) and continues to add on to what is already a school record 14 game winning streak.



FPU was red hot in the first half shooting 62% (16-26) from the field, 62% (8-13) from three-point distance, and 100% (4-4) from the line to end the period with a 44-27 lead. The Sunbirds kept up the pressure in the second half and were able to rely on solid team defending down the stretch to keep the Mustangs at bay.



The Sunbirds made it a genuine team effort with an impressive six players scoring in double digits. Senior forward/guard Marcus West had a team high 17 points and four rebounds while junior forwards Todd Brown and Kendall Holmes both put up 14 points apiece. Junior forward Jermaine Jones and junior guard James Lewis Jr. also contributed with 11 points each. Junior forward Eric Hipolito put up 10 as well.



"We are very pleased with how we played tonight," complimented FPU assistant coach Chris Wright. "We were finally able to put together 40 minutes of good basketball."



FPU will hope to continue their historic run and GSAC dominance when they travel to face Cal Baptist in Riverside, CA. this Saturday, January 31st . The Lancers dropped from #15 to #22 in this week's rankings after suffering a 64-67 loss to Biola last week. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30PM.
