EMPORIA, Kans. - The NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships sparked to life on Thursday, with multiple Sunbirds qualifying for Saturday's finals in the following events: 400m, 400m hurdles, and 4x100 relay.

THURSDAY RESULTS

On day one of the championships, Shemar Palmer advanced to the finals in the 400m with one of the top finishes, coming in with a time of 45.91. Sparking her comeback, Avril Mendoza also made it to the final, posting the second-fastest time and achieving a lifetime personal record in the 400m hurdles (58.14). The women's 4x100 relay team, consisting of Nydia Chance, Avril Mendoza, Shaniya Randolph and Cyan Haslip, rounded out the rest of Thursday's finalists despite some shaky handoffs (45.76).

Several Sunbirds wrapped up their individual competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. Kenahdi Haslip (400m), Nydia Chance (100m), and both Rome Johnson and Jonathan Tseko-Biffle in the 400m hurdles competed valiantly against some of the nation's top talent, but narrowly missed advancing to Saturday's finals.

FRIDAY RESULTS

Shemar Palmer continued to excel on the track, claiming a first-place finish in the 200m prelims to advance to finals. Along with Palmer, the women's 4x400 relay team solidified its spot in Saturday's finals. The team of Kenahdi Haslip, Avril Mendoza, Shaniya Randolph, and Emma O'Neil sealed the deal with their 3:37.52 time.

Whereas, Cyan Haslip (100m Hurdles), Malachi Carrasco (High Jump), and Chavez Grey (Discus) closed out their individual performances on Friday. Haslip recorded a time of 13.78, Carrasco finished eighth with a 2.10m mark, and Grey closed out his junior season with a fierce battle in the rain.
