FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific University Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Daniel Dyck as the head coach of Sunbird men's basketball. He takes over for C.J. Haydock, who stepped down from his coaching role after 10 seasons in charge. Dyck will begin his new position on June 8.

"We are excited to welcome Daniel to Fresno Pacific University," said Kyle Ferguson, FPU Director of Athletics. "He aligns with our vision for developing student-athletes spiritually, academically, and competitively, and we are excited for the future of Sunbird Basketball under his leadership."

Throughout his nine-year coaching career, Dyck as has emerged as one of the rising young coaches in the West Region.  He spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University, where he helped continue to shape the Sea Lions into a national contender. During his tenure, PLNU would go on to win three PacWest Championships, two PacWest Tournaments, and make back-to-back NCAA West Region finals appearances.

"Serving at a Christ-centered institution is paramount for our vision for the program, and we can't wait to get to work on building a program that represents FPU and our city with a ton of pride and purpose."

A native of Clovis, Dyck's hiring is more than a homecoming; his coaching career began on the sidelines of FPU, having joined Haydock's staff as an assistant in 2017.  In his five seasons with the Sunbirds, he was a key figure in orchestrating the most successful era of Fresno Pacific men's basketball at the NCAA Division II level. Dyck helped transform the program into a conference contender, leading a defense that ranked among the nation's best and powered a historic NCAA West Regional appearance in 2021. Dyck's savviness as a tactician, innovation in player development, and relationship-building in recruiting played a central role in establishing the standards and habits that elevated the Sunbirds. Players recruited by Dyck for FPU include Adrian Antunez, Nate Kendricks, Darrin Person Jr, Jelani Watson-Gayle, and Aamondae Coleman. His recruiting footprint spans across the United States and internationally, with successful recruiting ties throughout California, the Pacific Northwest, Texas, the East Coast, and multiple countries overseas.

"Throughout the process, it became clear that his strong connection to both FPU and the Fresno community made him an outstanding fit for this role," Ferguson added.

Recognized for his innovation in player development, Dyck has coached and developed numerous professional players and award winners throughout his career, including the PacWest's reigning player of the year Andrew Nagy and over a dozen All-Conference/All-Region selections.

With deep ties to the Central Valley and a clear vision rooted in holistic development, stewardship, and community-building, Dyck is prepared to lead Fresno Pacific into its next era with purpose and meaning while building a program that reflects the heart, toughness, and pride of the Central Valley.

"Returning to Fresno and serving a community that has given so much to my family and me is a responsibility that I do not take lightly," Dyck added. "I have a deep understanding of the region's competitive edge, relentless work ethic, and pride; all of which define the community and the way the game is played here. We will be a program that is connected to its community, trusted by its coaches, and built around the players who represent it."

Dyck is a graduate of Grand Canyon University, where he obtained a B.S in Secondary Education and M.S. in Leadership. He attended Clovis High School.

"I am grateful to the administration for their belief, and to Coach Haydock and the staff who have poured so much into this program over the years and have laid an incredible foundation. My family and I have been deeply impacted by our time at Point Loma, and I am especially thankful for Coach Justin Downer, Coach Geoff McIntosh, the team, and those who have helped shape me along the way. Most importantly, I am grateful for my wife, Kaitlyn, whose unwavering support has made opportunities like this possible for our family."
