PHOENIX - Former Sunbird baseball great Justin Fuson has signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox. The right-handed pitcher will begin his big league pro career assigned to the ACL White Sox of the Arizona Complex League.
The Fresno native and San Joaquin Memorial grad is coming off a breakout season for the Pioneer League's Billings (MT) Mustangs. Fuson struck out 70 batters in 69 innings pitched to go along with a 3.63 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts). He was named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Month in June 2025 and made 24 appearances in the Pioneer League across two seasons with Billings and the Ogden (UT) Raptors. The Mustangs announced on Sunday that Fuson's contract was purchased by the White Sox, indicating that the next time he takes the mound will be as a member of the MLB organization.
Fuson's reputation as a strikeout artist began long before Billings. As a Sunbird from 2019-2023, Fuson's 259 strikeouts are a program record, and his 22 wins and 271.0 innings pitched rank second and third all-time in their respective categories. The former All-PacWest First Team selection pitched a no-hitter in 2022 and recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a game four times for FPU. Off the field, Fuson obtained both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Fresno Pacific University.
Oscar Hirschkorn, Fresno Pacific's head baseball coach, led the Sunbirds throughout Fuson's collegiate career. "Justin is a great player and an even better person," Hirschkorn said. "To see how far he's come since we started recruiting him out of high school, and into the man he is today, I don't have the words to express how proud and happy I am for him."
FPU Athletics will continue to follow the progression of Justin's journey toward the Bigs.
