LONG BEACH, Calif. - On Wednesday afternoon, the PacWest conference announced the Track and Field athletes of the week, recognizing Fresno Pacific's own star student-athlete Avril Mendoza for her performance at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Facing a highly competitive field stacked with Division I talent, Avril Mendoza delivered a breakthrough performance in the 400m hurdles. The sophomore was among the first Division II athletes to cross the line, placing 13th overall and welcoming her lifetime-best with open arms.
The mark not only represents a significant personal milestone, but also elevates her to No. 4 in the nation with an NCAA provisional qualifying time. On top of that, the Sunbird sophomore surpassed her previous best of 58.90 from last years' NCAA DII Championships, marking monumental progress within her event.
Fresno Pacific Track and Field will compete at the PacWest Championships this weekend in San Diego from April 23-25th.
