CHICO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific track and field had three Sunbirds competing at the Chico State Multi Classic from February 26-27. The weekend ended with two podium-finishes and a new addition to FPU's all time list!
"I'm very proud of the results from the Chico State meet this weekend," said head coach
Robert Foster. "The multis (decathlete/heptathlete) team made notable progress. These athletes have been putting in a lot of effort, and it's clearly paying off, not only on the field but also in the classroom—giving all the glory to God."
Clara Wagner was the champion of the Heptathlon, scoring 4517 overall. Her performances in the 200 meters (25.65), long jump (5.51m), and 800 meters (2:29.70) boosted her out of reach of her competitors. The Sunbird sophomore moved into the fifth spot on the all-time FPU list with her first Heptathalon of the year, achieving a significant personal best.
Alongside Wagner was fellow teammate
Kaitleigh Downing, who also improved her personal best in the heptathlon with a fifth-place finish, tallying 4002 points. Downing had a strong showing in shot put, coming in second with a mark of 10.17m. She also came in third in javelin and long jump, which significantly boosted her overall points.
Jackson Paramo was the sole Sunbird man competing at the Chico State Multis. He surpassed his personal best by almost a hundred points, coming in second in the decathlon with 6384 points. The Buchanan High native did well in the 100 meters (11.15), 400 meters (49.03), and the pole vault (4.50m), taking the lead in each category.
