FPU Women's Soccer Announces Coaching Change

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific Athletics has announced a change in leadership for the women's soccer program.  Second-year Head Coach Roberto Hernandez will no longer lead the team, with Director of Soccer Jaime Ramirez returning as Head Coach for the 2026 season.

"We are incredibly thankful for Roberto and his faithful service to our women's soccer program," said FPU Director of Athletics Kyle Ferguson. "He is a great coach and an even better man. He is someone who consistently modeled what it means to lead with character, compassion, and faith. We are deeply grateful for his faithful leadership and the lasting impact he has made on our student-athletes and our community."

Hired ahead of the 2024 season as Associate Head Coach, Hernandez inherited a program that had won only twice the season before and was coming off of five losing seasons in their previous seven. A former goalkeeper, the team saw immediate improvement under Hernandez in numerous defensive categories after his first season, including goals allowed (just 17 compared to the previous season's 49) and shutouts (7 compared to the previous season's 3). He would be elevated to Head Coach beginning with the 2025 season and would see his tactics and philosophies continue to take root on a young Sunbirds team.  Despite only two years on the job, Hernandez's influence in resetting and reshaping the culture and trajectory of the women's soccer program will continue to resonate for years to come.

The entire Fresno Pacific Athletics Department would like to thank Roberto for his service to the university and its student-athletes, and wishes him the very best going forward as he begins the next chapter of his coaching career.
