Kyle Ferguson serves as the Director of Athletics at Fresno Pacific University, where he leads an NCAA Division II department of 17 intercollegiate programs, more than 70 staff, and over 400 student-athletes. He is a member of the President’s Cabinet and provides vision and strategic direction for Sunbird Athletics, focusing on spiritual growth, academic success, competitive excellence, student-athlete experience, facility growth, fundraising, and strong alignment with the mission of the university.

Ferguson joined FPU in 2023 with 15 years experience in higher education. Before Fresno Pacific, he served as Division Chair of Humanities at Lewis-Clark State College, supporting over 30 full-time faculty and multiple academic initiatives. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, he was an Assistant Professor of Communication Arts for seven years, teaching communication courses such as public speaking, sport communication, communication theory, logic, and organizational communication. Additionally, Ferguson has taught both face-to-face and online at multiple community colleges and universities (Mesa College, Southwestern College, California Baptist University, and University of Arizona). His background as a faculty member continues to shape his student-centered leadership philosophy.

He also brings extensive experience as an athletic director, having previously led the athletic department at San Diego Christian College from 2013-2016. Under his leadership, the Hawks added new athletic teams, strengthened academic support systems, executed a department-wide strategic plan, expanded fundraising, and hosted conference and national postseason events. Prior to becoming AD, he worked in sports information, recruiting, and admissions.

His professional involvement includes leadership roles on numerous university, conference, and national committees, along with active engagement in academic and athletic governance. He has been an invited presenter on topics such as NIL education, student-athlete academic success, leadership communication, and post-pandemic teaching practices, and he has served as a reviewer for communication and sports journalism textbooks.

Ferguson is a native of Grand Island, Nebraska and holds a Master of Arts in Communication from Spring Arbor University (Michigan) and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from York University (Nebraska). He is ABD in his doctoral program in Higher Education Administration at Idaho State University. His ongoing research focuses on student-athlete college choice at faith-based Division II institutions, and his future scholarly work will expand into liberal arts education and the classical model of the liberal arts.

Kyle and his wife, Lori, make their home in Fresno with their four children—Brooke, Bonnie, Claire, and Koufax—and remain active in their local church, prioritizing faith, family, and community.
