PUEBLO, Colo.-The defending National Champions in the 4 x 400 relay accomplished their mission of qualifying for the final in the only event for Fresno Pacific Track and Field Friday at the Colorado State Pueblo Thunderbowl.
The only event on the docket for Fresno Pacific on Friday was the mile relay and the group of
Brianna Green,
Madison Flores,
Ariana Vera, and
Iyanna Fuller posted a time of 3:42.06 in the opening heat.
Green delivered a strong start keeping FPU towards to leading pack with Flores and Vera keeping the Sunbirds in the top half.
Fuller anchored with a lifetime PR split that set Fresno Pacific in fifth of the very fast-paced opening heat.
With two automatic qualifiers coming out of each of the two heats, FPU was left waiting for the results of the second heat to know whether or not they would advance as one of five teams based on time.
While the automatic qualifiers in heat two also set blazing times, the Sunbirds ended up as the 7
th of 9 teams in the final women's event on the track Saturday night.
The 'Birds will have a much busier Saturday as they hunt trophies.
Dejan Mileusnic will be the first of FPU's final participants as the top performer on the javelin performance list will be in the second flight. The javelin competition begins at 2:45 p.m. MDT/1:45 p.m. PDT, with Mileusnic expected to get his first throw at about 3:15 p.m. local time.
Then the women's 4 x 100 relay will hit the track in the final after a strong showing on Thursday.
Aubrianna Smith,
Madison Flores,
Ariana Vera, and
Zara Anthony will compete at 5:10 p.m. MDT/4:10 p.m. PDT.
The final event for FPU will be the women's 4 x 400 relay which starts at 8:55 p.m. MDT/ 7: 55 p.m. PDT.
