LONG BEACH, Calif.- Rodney Chemalmal's 10k time lands him 4
th in school history and highlighted a strong day of personal bests for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds track and field team at the first day of the Long Beach Invite on Friday.
Chemalmal finished the 10k in 31:03.84 which was good enough for 5
th place in the deep field that featured a number of Division I opponents.
Chemalmal bettered his season-best while registering the 8
th fastest time in the PacWest this season and led all DII opponents at the event.
Aryanna Guzman also crushed the 10k on the women's side, delivering a PR of 39.42.77 for 11
th place at the event.
Improving personal bests was a theme of the competition's opening day for Fresno Pacific as
Maribel Aguilar delivered in the steeplechase, posting a time of 11:42.09 and took 5
th place in the event, shaving more than a second off her previous best.
Yorkabel Gebrehiwot also came through with a personal best in the 5k with a time of 18:25.71.
Back on the men's side, Jake Resendez took 4
th in the 5k with a time of 14:50.55.
Jackson Paramo improved his personal best in the pole vault for the 2
nd consecutive week, topping out at 4.42 meters and taking 8
th place in Long Beach.
Dejan Mileusnic didn't PR this time but his second longest attempt of the season was good enough for 3
rd place at 74.76-m.
FPU concludes the Long Beach Invite on Saturday with a full slate of events at Long Beach State.
