CHICO, Calif.-After sweeping every running event with 1
st place finishes,
Brianna Green added 1
st place in the javelin to win the heptathlon at the Chico Multi-Event Classic Friday.
Â
"We are really proud of Bri for winning her first heptathlon with us," Fresno Pacific head coach
Ray Winter said. "In particular, since it took a lot more grit than usual because the weather was extremely bad both days."
Â
Green sailed through the running events on Day 1 to put her in front of the 13 competitor field from the start.
Â
The only time Green did not lead the overall leaderboard was after the high jump on Thursday, the third event of the weekend.
Â
Green quickly bounced back with a win in the 200 meters, setting up a solid Friday.
Â
Her 4
th place finish in the long jump kept her in front.
Â
In the javelin, Green won the event by over 2 meters and created some space from the pack.
Â
She wrapped up the event with a win in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:27.27 and holding off second place by three seconds.
Â
"Coach Foster develops his athletes' minds and bodies," Winter said of Coach
Robert Foster who trains Green in the multi's. "That was evidenced by Bri's ability to focus on the task regardless of the sub-par conditions."
Green's overall score of 4,310 is the 9
th best in Fresno Pacific track and field history on the women's side and she accomplished the top-ten performance in just her first heptathlon as a Sunbird.
Â
"She is such a dominant runner," Winter said. "So it will be intriguing to see how she transfers that speed into her technical development in the field events to accomplish some very strong marks moving ahead."
