RESULTS
FRESNO, Calif.-Behind a stadium record at one location and dominant performances at the other, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds track and field team continued its thrilling start to the 2023 season at this year's Sunbird Invitational Saturday afternoon at Ramirez Field and Sunnyside High School.
With the event split in two locations, the field events centered at the FPU Campus where
Dejan Mileusnic kicked off the day by setting the stadium record and breaking his week-old program record in the javelin with a 71.88 throw.
Mileusnic's first two throws were shade off the record before his fourth attempt of the day landed .02 beyond the 17-year old stadium record that was set during the National Meet set that year.
Jesse Franco delivered his personal record in the javelin and backed it up with another PR on the day in the hammer.
Hope Erwin delivered an outstanding day as well with a pair of top three finishes and personal records in the shot put and the discus.
At Sunnyside High School, the Sunbirds dominated the jumps with
Isaac Davis,
Adrian Hodges, and
Devin Kelly delivering a host of top-5 finishes.
Hodges won the triple jump and placed second in the long jump. Davis finished one place ahead in the long jump and fourth in the triple.
Davis also led the men's 4 x 100 relay team to the 2
nd best time in Fresno Pacific history as he partnered with Obinna Elindu,
Garrett Fox and Kyle Jimenez to grab 1
st place with a 41.10 Saturday.
In the women's 400,
Madison Flores won the event with a time of 54.75 headlining a pack of former or current Sunbirds that occupied the next five spots.
Brianna Green took 4
th and
Ariana Vera placed 6
th as the Sunbirds sprinters excelled throughout the afternoon.
Flores also won the 200, with Green finishing 3
rd just a shade off the pace set by a pair of All-Americans.
Zara Anthony 4
th,
Iyanna Fuller 5
th and
Aubrianna Smith crossed 6
th to fill out another event with blue and orange.
The Sunbirds went 1-2-3 in the 100, with Anthony winning the event, Smith taking 2
nd and
Iyanna Fuller finishing 3
rd. Layla Clay finished 5
th.
In the distance events,
Yorkabel Gebrehiwot delivered a gutsy performance in the 1500 with a 2
nd place finish that including a strong final stretch to hold off third place.
Gebrehiwot backed it up with a strong effort in the 3000 by finishing in 4
th place with a time of 10:21.69.
Jacob Resendez PR'd in the men's 3000, finishing in just over 8 and a half minutes (8:34.62) to finish 6
th.
The Sunbirds ended the afternoon by celebrating a slew of seniors Saturday afternoon throughout the lone home event of the year for FPU.
Fresno Pacific will head to the Rossi Relays in Claremont on Saturday, February 25
th.
