st and 2
nd place finishes in the men's 60 meter hurdles, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds track and field team shined at the first day of the University of Washington Invitational Friday.
Kalobe Jimenez and
Cullin Bates ran their best times in the prelims but followed it up with a 1-2 finish in the finals with times of 8.16 and 8.33, respectively.
That was just a piece of the impressive performances that helped the Sunbirds stand out in the crowded and talented field.
All-American
Madison Flores led a group of fast 'Birds in the 200 meters. Flores finished 2
nd in the event with a time of 24.64 while newcomer
Ariana Vera impressed with a 25.11 time and finished 6
th .
Zara Anthony and
Iyanna Fuller also impressed with times of 25.92 and 26.28.
Freshman
Garrett Fox finished 7
th overall in his first collegiate race, completing the 200 meters on the men's side in 22.38.
In the 5k,
Xavier Smith delivered a solid performance.
"Even though it was seven seconds slower than his time here last year," Fresno Pacific head coach
Ray Winter said. "He just became a dad about a week ago and hasn't slept much. He looked really good."
The men's distance medley relay just missed the school record by .39 as Bates,
Bryan Banuelos,
Bo Olsen, and
Abesolom Teffra finished in 10:08.09.
