AUSTIN, Texas – Six members of the Fresno Pacific University track and field teams traveled to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays, as
Brett Lombardi,
Kyra Bailey,
Kyla Richardson,
Danae Manibog Gatewood,
Chloe Sharp, and
Madison Flores represented the Sunbirds well against some of the toughest competition in the country.
"Our All-American squad of speedsters showed up big on this big stage, and I could not be prouder of them," head coach
Ray Winter said. "The way that they prepare and carry themselves day in and day out, year in and year out, is why good things like this happen. Danae was on fire today with a very fast split, and Kyra was ready to step up and step in when needed. Congratulations go to Coach
Robert Foster as well for preparing them so well. They all made a statement today in this mid-season meet."
Friday belonged to the women's sprinters. The 4x400-meter relay team ran a 3:41.61, matching the time of last year's runner-up finish at the NCAA DII National Championships. The time is the fastest in DII so far this season. Manibog Gatewood owned the fastest split from the team, completing her leg in 53.3. Sharp competed in the 100-meter dash and ran a lifetime best of 12.07.
Lombardi competed in the decathlon. The 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400-meter dash all took place on Wednesday. He posted strong results in the running events, clocking in at 11.47 in the 100-meter and 50.96 in the 400-meter. Lombardi placed 13th in the 400-meter dash.
Lombardi had a nice showing in the field events as well. He cleared 6'03" in the high jump, good enough for 13th place. Lombardi leaped 20'1" in the long jump and threw 33'9" in the shot put.
