Sunbirds Kick Off Road Trip In Irvine and Fall Short to Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team started a four-game road trip on Wednesday, but fell short to Concordia 64-37.

QUOTABLE

"Tough start to a challenging trip. Another night of incredible defense in stretches, but it was coupled with an inability to score the basketball. We are generating the looks we want but had a real problem again with finishing at the rim and elsewhere. We have lots of work to do and lots of opportunities on this trip to show improvement. This season is not what we wanted, but we have to control what we can and relentlessly chase a better version of our team. Our inner circle has no flinch, just togetherness and hard work. We'll have some great nights on this trip, and it'll be hard earned." – head coach Tim Beauregard

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Felicia Dourva started things off with three straight layups to give the Sunbirds an early 6-2 lead, followed by another from Anisa Rillo and then Sara Lundqvist to make it 10-2 with just over three minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • Concordia closed out the quarter on a 6-1 run, but the Sunbirds held an 11-8 lead after the first period.
  • A 6-2 run to start the second quarter gave Concordia its first lead of the contest, and they led by eight points at the half.
  • The Eagles came out firing to start the second half, building their lead to as many as 25 points before a Dourva 3-pointer, assisted by Breanna Hurt, cut it to 22 heading into the final period of play.
  • Concordia wouldn't allow the Sunbirds to gain any momentum in the last quarter, taking the win.
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Dourva scored a game-high 15 points in the contest, along with two rebounds and 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
  • Rillo finished the game with six points and five rebounds.
  • Hurt came away with five points and five rebounds.
