FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific tennis coach George Rodriguez announced the signing of Safaa Umar out of Sacramento, California, on Tuesday, joining Audrey Ouellet and Margarita Munoz in the 2022-23 class.
"Safaa brings natural talent. She has some of the most beautiful strokes I've seen in a player," Rodriguez said. "She's very smooth with fluid technique. She is very determined to keep working hard to reach her full potential. She has a high ceiling, and I can't wait to see her quickly reach it. She's definitely a player to watch, as she will make big leaps with her game quickly. I'm very excited to have her here at FPU."
During her high school career, Umar played top six singles all four years and played as the number one in 2021-22. Last season, she made it to the quarterfinals in the SJS Division 1 Girl's Tennis Sectional.
She has an overall record of 57-6 in her career while winning the team MVP award in 2021-22 and also earning the Dedication Award in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
"I want to attend Fresno Pacific University because of the exceptionally welcoming environment, the strong academic emphasis and the support which FPU offers to its student-athletes," Umar said.
