Boatman Moves Up Career Leaderboard against Holy Names

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific baseball team hosted Holy Names in a PacWest doubleheader on Thursday, falling 4-3 in extras in the opener before dropping the nightcap 5-0. Right-hander Nic Boatman moved into second place on FPU's career leaderboard for strikeouts, racking up eight in five innings of work to push his career total to 209.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams exchanged zeroes for the first five innings before the Hawks broke through with an unearned run in the top of the sixth.
  • HNU followed with a run in each of the next two frames to take a 3-0 lead into the ninth.
  • Jack Foote opened the home ninth with a double down the left field linebefore scoring on a Michael Warkentin single to center.
  • Jared Aguilar plated a run to make it 3-2, and Andrue Lackey tied the game with a deep sac fly to the warning track in left.
  • Holy Names plated the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th, but the Sunbirds were unable to answer.
  • FPU's first hit in the back end of Thursday's twin bill came in the final inning while trailing 5-0, but after stranding the bases loaded, the Sunbirds were hit with their second loss of the day.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
  • Justin Fuson started Game 1 on the mound for the Blue and Orange, answering with eight strikeouts and zero earned runs over six innings.
  • Tyler Rumbaugh was the first man out of the Sunbird bullpen on Thursday, tossing 3.2 innings before giving way to Gio Helmuth to finish off the 10th.
  • Warkentin and Chase Pinheiro each picked up two hits in the opener, while the top half of FPU's order provided all the RBI.
  • Nicholas Falco and Nicholas Schoonover each tossed an inning of relief work in Thursday's finale.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Boatman now sits behind only Wilson Ashford on FPU's career list, passing Josh Medeles on Thursday night.
  • Aguilar currently claims a four-game hit streak, matching FPU's longest of the season from any player.

UP NEXT:
  • The Sunbirds and Hawks are set to wrap up the series with another doubleheader on Saturday in Alameda. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
