Sunbirds Shine at FPU Vikings Alumni Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – The FPU track and field teams competed on their home track for the first time this season on Saturday at the FPU Vikings Alumni Invitational.

RESULTS

QUOTABLE:
  • "Today was a solid day of work for the teams as we continue to wake up from the long off-season and test our fitness. The wind today made it tough on the runners, but it actually allowed us to better focus on effort and technical-based outcomes rather than getting caught up in the times and marks. Overall, it was a really tangible emotional uplift for every one of us out there to just hear the starter's pistol go off and actually compete again on our track. Today was a well-deserved and hard-earned privilege for every student-athlete that showed the resilience to get to this day."– head coach Ray Winter
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Kristi Yorke won the pole vault with a personal best of 12'1.5" to improve on her 2nd all-time FPU mark. She attempted to clear the school record height of 12'9' but fell short.
  • Gianna Dickson won the 100m hurdles (14.48), a personal best and an improvement on her 2nd all-time FPU mark, missing the school record by only .08. She also won the 400m hurdles (1:05.36).
  • The quartet of Kyra Bailey, Danae Manibog, Chloe Sharp, and Madison Flores won the 4x100m relay in 47.47, good for 9th all-time in FPU history. Each of the top ten marks in that event in school history have come since 2018 under the direction of lead assistant Robert Foster.
