Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Sunbirds Downed by Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University women's basketball team traveled across town to the Save Mart Center to take on Fresno State in an exhibition on Friday evening. Rachel Berry was a rebound away from a double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Sunbirds dropped their final exhibition of the season 83-53 to the Bulldogs.

QUOTABLE
"Tonight was a blast. We let their zone take away a bit of our aggressiveness in stretches but we also got a lot of shots that we wanted, and they didn't fall. We had another chance to play a lot of freshman and redshirt freshmen and we are thrilled about their growth this early on. We are excited about where we are. We have a clear identity, our team is together, and we are close to being fully healthy. Our team is fired up to get to season and continue the growth." – head coach Tim Beauregard.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slow start, the Sunbird's offense got going when Joleen Corona knocked down a three-pointer followed by another three-pointer from Berry.
  • Julie Ramirez hit the final shot of the opening quarter, as the Birds trailed the Bulldogs 24-13 after 10 minutes.
  • With 4:46 left in the first half, Lydia Manu made a nice move, spinning toward the basket and making a layup.
  • A layup from Maesyn Rix closed out the first half.
  • In the third quarter, Sara Lundqvist nailed a three, butting the 'Dogs lead to 46-28.
  • The Bulldogs pulled away in the closing moments, taking the game 83-53.
