‘Birds Split Another PacWest Twin Bill in Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific baseball team picked up split in a PacWest Conference doubleheader for the second time in as many days on Saturday, defeating Concordia 10-1 in the opener before falling 4-0 in the finale.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUPS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Game 1 
  • Nick Dodd started the scoring with an RBI single up the middle in the third, and Jared Aguilar, Dylan Lewis and Jack Foote each drove in a run the following inning. 
  • A sac fly put the Eagles on the board in the fifth, but the Sunbirds busted it open with a three-run sixth.
  • Angel Flores doubled home two more runs in the top of the ninth, and Lewis brought in the game's final run with a sac fly.
 
Game 2 
  • The Eagles plated two runs in the fourth before following with one in the fifth and another in the sixth.
  • Concordia righthander Jimmy Endersby went the distance on the mound, picking up seven strikeouts and scattering four hits over seven innings of work.
 
STATS FROM THE DAY: 
  • Foote, Andrue Lackey and Garrett Cooper each were credited with three hits in the opener, while four different Sunbirds picked up a pair of RBI.
  • Starter Matt Stearns turned in a strong outing on the mound, delivering eight innings of one-hit baseball on just 72 pitches.
  • Michael Barker overcame a hit and a walk in the ninth to finish off the first game of the afternoon.
  • Cooper took the loss in the series finale after allowing two runs over the first four innings of the game.
  • Brady Crow, Tyler Rumbaugh, and Jared Aguilar combined for the final two innings, allowing just one run.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE: 
  • The Sunbirds have already stolen 45 bases in just 22 games after swiping 48 bags in 45 games last season.
  • Lackey has reached base successfully in every game so far this spring.
