Sunbirds Stumble Again in Hilo

HILO, Hawaii – The Fresno Pacific baseball team was hit with its' third straight loss on Friday night, falling 9-1 against Hawai'i Hilo in PacWest Conference action. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• A wild pitch started the scoring in the home half of the first, and Vulcan right fielder John Bicos hit an inside-the-park-home run in the second to give UHH a 2-0 lead. 
• Tristen Alvarez got the Sunbirds on the board with an RBI single to left in the third, but Hawai'i Hilo pushed the lead to four behind two FPU errors in the fifth.  
• Kobie Russell homered to open the sixth inning with a solo shot, and the Vulcans followed with their biggest inning of the series, striking for four in the home seventh. 
 
STATS FROM THE DAY
• Brian Hefner was the lone Sunbird with a multi-hit day.         
• FPU starter Nic Boatman allowed three earned runs and fanned four Vulcans over his five innings before giving way to the Sunbird bullpen.  
• The first two Sunbird relievers combined for two hit batters and four hits over 1.1 innings, which resulted in four UHH runs.   
• Tyler Rumbaugh came on in a mop-up role, overcoming two hits to record the final five outs of the game.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Hefner matched Alvarez and Michael Warkentin with a team-high five multi-hit performances so far this spring.
• Alvarez has reached base in eight straight games, including all six of FPU's league contests.
