WAIPAHU, Hawaii – The Fresno Pacific baseball team split on the final day of its' series with Hawai'i Pacific on Monday, winning 10-8 in the opener of a doubleheader before falling 4-3 in extra innings in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• A throwing error helped the Sunbird plate the first run of the game in the second inning, and
Michael Warkentin's infield single plated a second run two innings later.
• The fifth proved to be a big frame for the Blue and Orange, as
Adam Aleman,
Dylan Lewis and
Jared Aguilar each picked up an RBI to push the lead to 5-0.
• Ross Dodds continued his recent hot streak, tripling in
Brian Hefner in the sixth before the Sharks scratched across three in the home half.
• Tristen Alvarez' sac fly gave FPU a 7-3 lead before the stretch, but HPU took advantage of a fielding error in the bottom half to once again cut their deficit to three.
• Alvarez brought in two runs with a double down the left field line to provide the 'Birds with some insurance in the ninth before Hefner reached on an error to make it 10-4.
• The Sharks gave the Sunbirds a scare in the bottom of the ninth, scoring four runs before FPU was finally able to record the final out and take a 2-1 series lead.
• HPU got on the board first in the series finale, scoring two runs in the second behind a Tanner Tokunaga single and a Sean Coffey sac fly.
• Dodds beat out an infield single to plate Alvarez in the third, and Lewis tied the game with a fielder's choice three innings later.
• The Sharks retook the lead in the home sixth, but
Ben Coito trotted in on a passed ball to again pull the Sunbirds even the following inning.
• Coffey led off the bottom half with a single through the right side before coming in to score on a walk-off single four batters later.
STATS FROM THE DAY
• Justin Fuson gave the Sunbirds five strong innings in the opener, allowing just four hits while fanning three without issuing a walk to earn his second win of the year.
• Garrett Cooper recorded his first collegiate save as FPU's fifth reliever of the day, recording the final two outs on just eight pitches.
• The Sunbirds turned to
Alex Garcia in the finale, and he answered with three earned runs over 5.2 innings.
• Cooper was saddled with the loss after allowing the final run to cross in the seventh inning.
• Five Sunbird hitters turned in a multi-hit game on the day, highlighted by Warkentin's three-hit performance in Game 1.
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Dodds hit safely in all four games against the Sharks, and three of his five hits on the series went for extra bases.
• FPU's team ERA has now gone over 3.00 for the first time this season, and it currently stands at 3.04.
