IRVINE, Calif. – After a 66-56 victory over Notre Dame de Namur on Monday night, the Fresno Pacific women's basketball team awaited the result of Chaminade's game against Hawai'i Pacific. The game was sealed early on as HPU cruised to an 83-47 victory, but the final horn meant that the Sunbirds will be playing postseason basketball for the first time as an NCAA member.
Â
"For two and a half years, we have told all of our players that their fingerprints would be all over our future successes, so this is just as much a testament to them as it is to our current team and the goals they set early this year. We are excited and proud of what we have been able to accomplish thus far, but we are not satisfied and will strive to finish this season in the strongest way possible," head coach
Tim Beauregard said. "Our goal since day one was to become a consistent contender in our league, and this proves that we have started that journey. We will relentlessly pursue excellence in all that we do, and we will continue to find solace in the journey rather than the results."
Â
The Sunbirds have won 15 games for the first since the 2006-07 season and last qualified for the playoffs in 2011 as a member of the NAIA's Golden State Athletic Conference. FPU will beÂ
back in action at home this weekend, when they take on league-leading Azusa Pacific at the Special Events Center.Â
