Fresno Pacific's last series came on Feb. 10-11 against Sonoma State, when the Sunbirds took the opener and finale of the three-game set to win their first series of the season. The pitching staff has been the bright spot for the Blue and Orange to date, collectively posting an ERA of 2.87 and an opponent batting average of .238. Shortstop Tristen Alvarez went 8-for-13 with three doubles when FPU visited the Seawolves, while Haden Hayned popped the first home run of the young season.

About the Mavericks (7-1)
CMU is coming off a four-game sweep of Montana State-Billings last weekend, and the Mavericks have opened the season with three straight series victories. Sophomore infielder Jordan Stubbings has hit the cover off the ball so far this year, leading the team with a .500 average. He is not alone in providing offense, as the Mavericks are hitting .322 as a team, with 29 of their 93 hits to date going for extra bases. On the mound, seven Mesa pitchers have posted an ERA of under 2.00 through the team's first eight games, while six different arms have picked up a win.
 
The Sunbirds have never played a team from Colorado. CMU is 3-1 away from the home park this season, while FPU is 0-2 at FPU Diamond.
