Box Score SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team opened up the 2019 season at San Jose State in a thrilling exhibition game at The Events Center. FPU came out ready to play and lead most of the game, but SJSU managed to fight their way back and pull out an overtime win over the 'Birds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Birds controlled the opening tip and after a few times up and back
Cassie Pisik drained a three to get the 'Birds on the board first.
• FPU took a six-point lead in the early going and kept their momentum throughout the first quarter giving them an eight-point lead going into the second quarter.
• The second quarter was a similar story as the 'Birds were able to keep their momentum and lead as they went into halftime with a nine-point lead.
• SJSU came out of the half with some energy as they outscored FPU 26-25 in the third quarter, despite that the 'Birds were able to lead 75-67 heading into the fourth quarter.
- The Spartans chipped away at the Sunbirds lead and were able to tie the game up at 89 apiece to force overtime.
- Overtime went back-and-forth but the Spartans manage to convert on a three-point play and reclaim the lead over the 'Birds.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• Pisik led all scorers and rebounders in the season opener with 27 points and 20 rebounds, to produce her first double-double of the season.
• Jessica Malazarte followed with 21 points of her own, while
Sara Lundqvist and
Kate McClard turned in 18 and 13 respectively
.
• The Spartans had four players in the double digits including 23 points from both Tyra Whitehead and Ayzhiana Basallo.
• FPU pulled down 57 total rebounds, 43 of them being defensive.
• The 'Birds outscored the Spartans in the first two quarters but were outscored in the second half.
