Vital Road Trip on Tap for Fresno Pacific

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team is set for a two-game road swing this week, taking on longtime rivals Azusa Pacific and Biola on Thursday and Saturday respectively. Entering play this week, all three teams are in the top six of the PacWest Conference standings.

About the Sunbirds (12-5, 8-3 PacWest)
FPU went 1-1 at home last week, falling to Dominican on Tuesday before bouncing back with an 80-53 win over Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday afternoon. Against the Argos, Cassie Pisik turned in a game-high 22 points, while Bree Alvarez knocked down six threes to give FPU a pair of players with 20+ points in a game for the second time this season. The Blue and Orange claim the best turnover margin in the league, forcing their opponents to an average of 20 turnovers per game.

About the Cougars (15-3, 12-0 PacWest)
The Cougars come into this week riding a 12-game win streak, including last Saturday's Cornerstone Cup victory over Biola. Rachel Bozlee racked up a game-high 23 points, including 12 from behind the arc, while three other Cougar players finished their night in double-figures. Azusa Pacific leads the conference in a number of categories, including scoring defense (61.8 PPG), three-pointers made (7.8 per game), rebounding margin (+6.5), blocks (5.5 per game) and steals (11.67 per game).  
 
APU claims a 46-27 record in the all-time series, including winning the last 16 games against the Sunbirds. FPU's last win against the Cougars came in 2009, and the last road win for the 'Birds came in 2003.
 
About the Eagles (8-9, 6-5 PacWest)
Biola played just one game last week, falling for the second time to APU in the Cornerstone Cup by a final of 82-53. Jazz Benn and Mikayla Greens combined for 28 points, but the Eagles committed 22 turnovers in the loss. 
 
FPU is 45-22 against Biola since the series began in 1983, including an 18-11 mark in La Mirada. In last season's lone meeting, Malazarte, Alvarez and Pisik combined for 34 en route to a 77-59 Sunbird victory.
