FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific closed out the West Region Showcase on Saturday at the Special Events Center with two matches. FPU fell to Seattle Pacific, 3-0, before dropping the finale of the showcase to Chico State, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• FPU, who was facing Seattle Pacific for the second time this season, played a tight first set before falling 25-20. The 'Birds were then tied 17-17 in the second frame before the Falcons used a 4-1 run to take control. The third set was close early before SPU ran away late to earn the sweep. 
• In the nightcap, the Sunbirds and Wildcats battled back and forth in the opening set. The 'Birds led 15-11 before Chico State used a 14-2 run to take escape with the early advantage. The momentum carried into the second and third sets, as the Sunbirds fell in straight sets.
 
STATS OF THE MATCHES:
• Caroline Bodziak led the Sunbirds with nine kills against Seattle Pacific, while Carley Bock added six. Christina Tran dished out 14 assists and scooped up eight digs.
• Against the Wildcats, Bock put down nine kills for FPU. The Sunbirds hit .310 in the first set behind four kills from Bock. Chantel Montayre added 14 digs for FPU in the setback, while Mikayla Kennedy added five kills on .556 hitting and Jaalyn Sotoa-Stuebing chipped in with six kills.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• The Sunbirds were the host of the West Region Showcase. FPU hosted 12 games in two days at the SEC.
 
UP NEXT:
• FPU opens PacWest play on the road on Friday, Sept. 7 at Concordia. First serve in Irvine is scheduled for 7 p.m.
