Sunbirds Close Out Falcon-Wildcat Invite

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Fresno Pacific struggled to find any momentum on Saturday, as the Sunbirds dropped a pair matches to wrap up the Falcon-Wildcat Invite. FPU fell to Metro State in the morning, 3-0, before suffering a setback to host Central Washington, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Match One
• The Sunbirds had trouble slowing the Metro State offense, who closed the match with a .301 hitting percentage.
• FPU held a lead late in set three, and also fought off match point on two different occasions, but the Roadrunners managed to score six of the last nine points to earn the sweep.
 
Match Two
• Central Washington took advantage of home-court advantage in the second match of the day, as the Sunbirds were held to a negative hitting percentage in the match.
• FPU scored five points in a row in the middle of the opening set, but CWU answered with a run of its own to take the momentum back and earn a 25-19 win. The Wildcats then ran away with the final two sets to earn the sweep.
 
STATS OF THE MATCH:
Match One
• Carley Bock led FPU with eight kills on .353 hitting against Metro. Christina Tran added seven kills, six digs and two assists, while Caroline Bodziak amassed six kills and five digs.
• The Sunbirds were held to .192 hitting in the match.
 
Match Two
• Bodziak totaled eight kills and 12 digs to lead FPU against the Wildcats. Chantel Montayre added 13 digs, while Sierra LeBeau added eight scoops.
• CWU hit .228 for the match, while the 'Birds were held in check at negative .019.
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• Metro State and Central Washington are currently receiving votes it the national poll.
 
UP NEXT:
• The Sunbirds travel across town to face Fresno State on Tuesday, August 28 at 6 p.m. Students can purchase their tickets from Student Life, while all FPU fans are encouraged to wear orange at the Save Mart Center.
