ST. GEORGE, Utah. – The Fresno Pacific baseball team suffered a setback on Thursday night, falling 13-3 to Dixie State in the first of a four-game PacWest Conference series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
•
Hunter Villanueva opened the second inning with a solo shot to left, giving the Sunbirds a 1-0 edge early.
• The Trailblazer offense struck for two runs in each of the next three innings to take a 6-2 lead.
•
Tristen Alvarez beat out an infield single to plate FPU's second run of the game, but the Sunbirds stranded two runners, failing to further cut into the deficit.
• The final Sunbird run of the night came on an
Adam Aleman's double to left in the top of the seventh, plating
Robby Steves from second base.
• Dixie State added six runs over its' final two trips to the plate, taking a 13-3 lead in the eighth inning.
• FPU starter
Esteban Lizaola was tagged for six runs on nine hits through five innings, and the bullpen provided little relief.
• Dixie State's Matt Mosca picked up the win after limiting the Sunbirds to two runs over the first six chapters, and Jimmy Borzone punched out four batters en route to earning the three-inning save.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
• Villanueva is now one home run away from tying the program's single season record, currently held by Case Rigby (2010) and Justin Keeney (2009).
• Steves extended his hitting streak to four games, which is now the longest active streak on the team.
ON DECK:
• The Sunbirds and Trailblazers pick up the series on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader. First pitch from Bruce Hurst Field in St. George is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PST.
