Offense Erupts on Senior Night, Birds Hope for Playoffs

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific men's soccer team picked up its' fifth straight victory to wrap up the regular season on Saturday night, defeating Hawai'i Hilo 5-0 at Ramirez Field. The Sunbirds will now wait to hear their name called during the NCAA Postseason Selection Show, which will take place on Monday at 3:00 p.m. PST. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: FPU (14-2-1, 10-2-0 PacWest), UHH (4-11-0, 3-7-0 PacWest)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Sunbirds put the foot on the gas from the opening whistle, and two goals in three minutes gave the home team a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
• FPU never let up, outshooting the Vulcans 20-2 in the second half of play.
• The Blue and Orange got three second half goals to keep padding the lead, eventually coming away with a 5-0 victory.
 
SCORING: 
• (20:31) Joao Ravasio and Anthony Velarde each made quick passes, paving the way for Eric Sanchez to fire just inside the far post to get the 'Birds on the board. 
• (22:17) Jose Segura and Eric Sanchez connected with Isaiah Asencio inside the box, and Asencio picked up his fourth score of the year.
• (56:27) Velarde got the ball to Brumati in a crowded box, and Brumati shook his defender to find Jesse Hoekstra for the goal.  
• (67:11) Velarde dribbled down the left flank before dumping off to Hoekstra, and the latter hit the lower right corner for his second of the night.  
• (87:17) Joao Ravasio called his shot and then followed through, bending a corner kick inside the net for the final goal of the regular season.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
• FPU outshot their hosts 32-5, including a mark of 13-0 in shots on frame. 
Patrick Timmer didn't have to record a save to pick up the clean sheet, while is Vulcan counterpart Nick Williams racked up eight saves for the second straight game.
• Fresno Pacific took nine of the game's 12 corner kicks.  
 
BEYOND THE BOX:
• FPU's 14 wins mark the program's highest regular season win total since 2015. 
• Seniors accounted for 13 total points in the victory.
