SAN DIEGO – The Fresno Pacific volleyball team played Point Loma tough on Saturday night, but the Sunbirds came up short 3-2 in PacWest action at Golden Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The opening set went to the Sea Lions despite the Sunbirds playing the frame tight. FPU tied the match at 23 after a
Carley Bock kill and ace, which forced a PLNU timeout. The Sea Lions escaped with the win after scoring the next two points however.
• The second frame went back and forth before a block from
Mikayla Kennedy and
Madison Pierce set up match point. PLNU followed with an error as the 'Birds evened the match at 1-1.
• With the score 22 all in the third, FPU had two consecutive attacks blocked and then committed an error to hand PLNU the win.
• The Sunbirds forced a fifth set after hitting .222 as a team in the fourth.
Greta Dobenecker sealed the win with a kill on a sneak attack at the net.
• FPU then jumped ahead 4-1 in the fifth, but PLNU defended its home court to storm back and earn the win.

STATS OF THE MATCH:
• Dobenecker had a big game facilitating the offense for the Sunbirds, as the senior totaled 48 assists, 18 digs, eight kills and two aces.Â
• FPU had three players finish with double-digit kills, led by Bock's 14. She added seven digs, six assists and three aces.
Caroline Bodziak totaled 13 kills and
Jaalyn Sotoa-Stuebing added 11.Â

Sierra LeBeau led the FPU defense with 28 digs.
• Point Loma received a game-high 21 kills from Rachael Schlect.

BEYOND THE BOX:
• Dobenecker picked up her 10th double-double of the season. She was just off her career high assist total of 51.
• LeBeau's 28 digs marked a career best.
