HONOLULU  – The Fresno Pacific University baseball team was tripped against Hawai'i Pacific, falling 5-0 in a game that bled into the early hours of Saturday morning. The loss drops the Sunbirds to 10-12 in PacWest play this season, including a 2-4 record in the Aloha State.
The Sharks started the scoring with a four-run bottom of the first before adding one more in the fifth inning. FPU's offense never got in a rhythm, as the lineup totaled just five hits for the second consecutive night.
Sunbird starter
Jonathan Molina was touched up for four runs in the first inning and was chased from the game just eight batters into the night. Lefthander
Nic Garcia took over on the mound, allowing just one run over the next seven innings while tossing 108 pitches to hold the HPU offense at bay.
For the Sharks, starting pitcher Matthew Gunter went eight strong innings, fanning seven to follow Tyler Van Stone's complete game in Thursday's series opener. First baseman Wyatt Hoppie continues his strong weekend with another three base knocks on Friday, while Robert Fram and Matthew Tsutomi contributed a pair of hits apiece.
The series with Hawai'i Pacific concludes on Saturday, when Fresno Pacific will play its final road doubleheader of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PST from Hans L'Orange Park.
